Tip of the week: Don’t look for national regulation on evacuation maps

We occasionally receive or otherwise read questions from the field about the need for posting evacuation maps in hospitals.
There are no national regulations to post such maps from OSHA, The Joint Commission, or the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the Life Safety Code also does not mandate such action for healthcare occupancies.
However, it is possible that a state or local authority requires evacuation maps, so if you have these maps in place and want to remove them, check with your home-based regulators first.
