Nurses’ union pact aids emergency preparedness efforts

The Minnesota Nurses Association and Allina Hospitals & Clinics came to terms on an interesting agreement in early February that hardwired staffing strategies into the system’s emergency management plans.

The agreement also helps the hospital comply with many emergency management requirements of The Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO), some of which include elements of performance under EM.02.02.01 (communication during disasters), EM.02.02.03 (managing assets during disasters, specifically personal protective equipment for nurses), and EM.02.02.07 (managing staff member responsibilities during disasters).
