Due to a good memory and some detective work by a plant operations manager, a former official at Beverly (MA) Hospital was arrested by police last week and charged with allegedly stealing antiques owned by the medical center during a renovation project.
The suspect, who was previously the associate vice president of support services at the hospital, pleaded not guilty in court, according to the Salem (MA) News.
Police seized three paintings, a grandfather clock, several wooden room dividers, and assorted furniture from the suspect’s home that authorities say belonged to the hospital, the News reported.
After realizing the items were missing, the hospital formed an investigative team. In an interesting twist, the plant operations manager and another hospital manager learned the suspect’s home was for sale, and allegedly saw the stolen clock in online photos of the property, according to the News. A police officer who had been to the house on an unrelated matter in the past also remembered some of the furniture, which jogged his memory when the hospital approached authorities about the thefts.
