In order to build a relationship with administrators, it’s important for security directors to have sit-down, face-to-face meetings with top leaders.
That’s the view of Connie Packard, director of public safety at Boston Medical Center.
Don’t rely on e-mail alone to communicate with top management. Packard meets quarterly with senior leadership, getting on the agenda to meet with the hospital’s president and CEO, as well as 10 vice presidents that represent varied departments such as nursing, legal counsel, human resources, and information technology. The agenda item says simply, “Connie Packard, to talk about public safety.”
That way she keeps interest since those in attendance have no idea what she plans to discuss. “I tell them the good news and the bad,” Packard said.
