September 10, 2008
Yet another deadly medical helicopter accident has occurred, this time in Indiana last week.

The chopper crashed into a farm field in Greensburg, IN, on August 31, killing the pilot, flight nurse, and flight paramedic, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). There were no patients on board.

The NTSB continues to investigate a cause of the accident. The helicopter was returning to its base after appearing at a fundraising event. Witnesses said parts of the aircraft separated from its main body before the chopper hit the ground, the NTSB reported.

Prior to this accident, this year had seen at least 16 people die in seven crashes, which involved eight medical helicopters.
