The preparations for Hurricane Gustav showcased how some hospitals think big when it comes to emergency planning.
Check out these arrangements at three New Orleans hospitals, as reported by the Associated Press:
- The Interim Louisiana State University Public Hospital in New Orleans stocked nonperishable food for 1,000 people
- Children’s Hospital, which built underground diesel tanks after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, had 80,000 gals. of fuel on hand, which could power generators for 28 days
- Tulane University Hospital & Clinic stood ready for backup communication with satellite, land, radio and cellular phone systems
