With the new influenza season just weeks away--and many healthcare workers typically not receiving a flu vaccination--Joint Commission Resources, Inc., has challenged hospitals to improve their inoculation efforts.
The latest statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate only 42% of healthcare workers receive a flu shot, which not only threatens their health, but the health of their patients.
Through its “Flu Vaccination Challenge,” Joint Commission Resources will recognize hospitals that achieve an employee vaccination rate of 43% or more from September 2008 until May 2009.
