These two-and-a-half day classroom sessions offer intense learning about the healthcare occupancy provisions within the 2000 edition of the Life Safety Code. For example, occupancy classifications were a topic of discussion at last year’s boot camps.

 

Consider this practical benefit of being able to classify an area in a hospital as something other than a healthcare occupancy: You may be able to save money on needless corrective actions.

 

For example, ambulatory healthcare occupancies (e.g., outpatient clinics) that are properly separated from healthcare occupancies (e.g., hospitals) don’t need to construct corridors that are at least 8 ft. wide if a wing undergoes renovation. That’s because the Life Safety Code sets corridor widths for newly constructed ambulatory sites at a minimum 44 inches.
