Deadly medical records accident tied to mobile shelving

If your hospital uses motorized medical records shelving, it’s time to take a serious look at safety pol-icies in the wake of a fatal accident that resulted in a settlement with a state OSHA agency for alleged violations.

In late May, Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, MN, agreed to pay $50,000 in fines to settle its case with Minnesota’s OSHA (MNOSHA), seven months after an incident involving a movable shelving unit killed a medical records worker, 51-year-old Susan Leukam.
