The U.S. Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) has made $398 million available for hospital preparation programs.

ASPR will award funds to states, territories, and the metropolitan areas of New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles County, and Washington, D.C. These funds will be used to improve the readiness of hospitals and strengthen medical surge capabilities across the nation.

The deadline for submitting applications for the grants is June 20.

The grants’ “emphasis is on the fact that 75% of these monies must reach hospitals to help them address specific issues,” says Joseph Cappiello, president of Simulation Education Services in Oak Brook Terrace, IL.

Cappiello will be the keynote speaker at our Environment of Care in 2009 seminar in September.
