Life safety surveyors may arrive separately from regular survey team

April 2, 2008

In a move that has not been publicized yet, The Joint Commission's (formerly JCAHO) life safety specialists occasionally conduct their hospital visits on different dates than the regular survey teams.

This practice has been confirmed for us by The Joint Commission and several independent sources we spoke to.

At least one concern is that affected hospitals may need to prepare for two unannounced survey visits--one from regular surveyors and one from solo life safety specialists. The Joint Commission hopes to realign the regular and life safety surveys by early summer.

Look for many more details in the upcoming May issue of Healthcare Life Safety Compliance.
