NY hospital gets millions to protect against flood waters

A hospital in Binghamton, NY, that suffered terrible flooding in 2006 will receive $6.9 million in federal and state funding to avert future problems.
With the money, Lourdes Hospital will build a flood wall around three sides of the campus to guard against possible rising waters from a nearby river, reported the Press & Sun-Bulletin of Binghamton. In June 2006, flooding forced the facility to evacuate for 12 days and caused $19 million in damage and losses.
The hospital is also installing rubber barriers in certain doors and installing pumps as other mitigation steps, according to the Press & Sun-Bulletin.
